[Internal] Using DBT Skills in Experiential Yoga Groups

About this course

Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills are integrated into treatment programs at The Emily Program and Veritas Collaborative to support the recovery journey. DBT skills center around four modules including: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. This training will explore various ways in which DBT skills can be woven as threads into experiential yoga groups across all levels of care.

  • Identify the four categories of DBT skills and their purpose.
  • Apply strategies for weaving DBT skills as threads into experiential yoga group to support practice, integration, and recovery.

This educational program is designed for mental health professionals, dietitians, social workers, and health care providers.

Course Instructor(s)

  • Amy Fogarty, DNP, RN, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP

    Amy is the Director of Yoga for The Emily Program and is a yoga therapist for South Sound, WA and Duluth, MN. She is a lifelong learner, trauma-informed yoga therapist, yoga teacher, and registered nurse. Her career is dedicated to supporting healing and well-being. Amy is passionate about eating disorder recovery, facilitating yoga and mindfulness groups, and supporting the yoga team at The Emily Program. Some of her favorite things to share in yoga and mindfulness groups include: mindfulness practices, breath practices, somatic movement, therapeutic yoga postures, traditional yoga postures, and relaxation practices. Amy earned her doctorate degree in nursing at The College of St. Scholastica and completed over 1000 hours of yoga training at Yoga North International SomaYoga Institute. She is a registered yoga teacher (RYT-500) through Yoga Alliance and a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Amy is a licensed registered nurse in the state of Minnesota.
