Where the Rivers Meet: Exploring and unpacking the intersection of eco-Anxiety and Orthorexia

CE Hours 1

About this course

Climate change is a global challenge with profound psychological impacts, including potentially increasing or exacerbating maladaptive coping behaviors, including those seen within eating disorders. This presentation aims to look at the complex relationships between eating-related eco-anxiety (defined as a chronic fear of environmental catastrophe), climate change worry, sustainable dietary behaviors, and disordered eating. Additionally, this presentation will explore possible assessment tools, interventions, resources and self-reflections providers can utilize when working with clients who are presenting with eco-anxiety and eating disorders.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop confidence in speaking directly with clients about eco-anxiety and orthorexia
  • Identify at least 2 skills for assessing for eco-related mental health risk factors using both formal clinical tools and tools for self-inquiry
  • Identify both the cautions and potential benefits of somatic yoga and non-dualist philosophy/practices for clients living at the intersection of eco-anxiety and eating disorders.
